TRIP AWAY CANCELLED 2020

Hi Everyone

Following the latest developments in NSW & VIC The Committee wishes to advise that our Yearly Trip away has been cancelled.

Our main concerns/considerations were -

• The age of many of our general members who are in a high risk group.

• Tourist hotspots like the Gold Coast are highly likely to be a hotspot for a new outbreak of Covid 19.

• Uncertainty over future restrictions, both locally and crossing the border. The NSW Government is already talking about reducing numbers allowed in pubs and clubs again.

• By then, will we be able to gather as a group if restrictions are tightened again? We may not be able to get together at the clubhouse post game or even get everyone together Friday & Saturday night.

Let’s not forget that on the last Warwick trip, one person started off sick and we ended up having about 75% of the bus having one to two weeks off work or laid low. This illness is far more serious with far more serious consequences for our older members and we can’t really see how it is worth taking unnecessary risks with anyone’s health just for a couple of games of golf.

I acknowledge that this may be disappointing to some, however I believe it would be irresponsible of us as a club to go.

We needed to make this call as soon as possible as to be fair to the accommodation and golf courses booked.

As an alternative for that weekend, a local game in and around that time as well as a social function for everyone would certainly help ease the disappointment I’m sure. I plan to speak with the Stafford Tavern on Friday to see what we are allowed regarding a group / private function.
